Writing, Engagement & Organisation

Writing & editing

Following on from editing Elizabeth Hays Lanfear’s Fatal Errors (2020) which I began in 2018, I became a freelance copywriter and editor. Since then I have edited articles, book chapters, and monographs for a variety of third party companies.

Currently I’m working towards my first academic monograph on Jane Austen, Elizabeth Gaskell the history of the novel of manners. In the meantime, I have more immediate project deadlines with my upcoming chapter on Dracula for a new companion (expected 2026) and a couple of articles on Austen adaptations.

Public engagement

‘Dracula and Survival Cannibalism’ with Romancing the Gothic (2025)

All the Year Round – an educational and entertaining podcast on the Victorian era (2023-2024)

Victorian Christmas presents on BBC Radio Leicester (2022)

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies screening and Q&A panel – organised and chaired as part of the Leicester Institute of Advanced Studies film series (2019)

Events organisation

Victorian Discoveries: Celebrating Innovation and Invention in the Long Nineteenth Century, 1789-1914 (2022) – I organised a conference using funds from the Centre for Victorian Studies. This included assessing applications for bursaries from PGR, ECR and precarious academics to support their attendance and participation at the conference. I reviewed personal statements in the selection process for social media participant roles for attendees. I created budget sheets, a marketing campaign, and created conference materials.

Through my career in academia, as well as my current job role in Professional Services including: inaugural lectures, historical campus tours, EDI events, staff wellbeing sessions, research lunchtime seminars, publisher workshops, and student-facing lecture series.

I have organised a wide variety of academic events including conferences, workshops, seminars, tours, and engagement sessions. I am able to plan and deliver events, from start to finish, using my academic skills in combination with my acquired practical knowledge.
